Prayers for a Boy Mom

Being a boy mom comes with all the feels. It is exciting and heartwarming, fun, yet still exhausting. Being a mom, a boy mom, in particular, can also be a little scary. If you’re a mom like me, you want your boys to grow to lead a life that is pleasing to the Lord, and although you are doing all that you can to raise him, and in my case, them, in the fear and reverence of the Lord; you always want to pray and leave margin for God to do His thing. I believe one of the most important things I can do as a parent is pass on my faith by example and give my children their own faith. Luke 2:52 talks about 4 areas of development to pray for our boys. “And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man.” Here is a breakdown of each area.

1.     Wisdom

2.     Increase in stature

3.     Favor with God

4.     Favor with men

Praying for your boys to grow in wisdom is asking God to bless them with the “know-how” of applying spiritual truths to practical everyday issues. Wisdom is using the right information in the right situation to reach the desired outcome. That is one of the most important things a mom can want for her son and not just for him but also for the family he will lead in the future.

When we pray for them to grow in stature, we are praying for their good health and safety so they can grow to the full extent of their God-given abilities. Pray that they will treat their bodies well by eating well, remaining active, avoiding negative contaminates (alcohol, drugs, etc.), getting enough rest, and practicing safety precautions like wearing their seat belt in the car and a helmet when on their bikes.

Prayer for favor with God is praying for spiritual growth. Pray that they always have tender hearts toward God and that knowing him, walking with him, and serving him is their greatest desire. I encourage you to pray that true “Christ-likeness” is developed in them daily as time goes on and that the grace of God’s favor will be given to them freely and without hesitation.

Praying that they grow in favor with men is asking God to involve himself in their social growth. Pray that your boys will learn how to get along with others, be true friends, and how to socialize without compromising their true values. Pray that God will bring them true friends who will be a positive influence and that God will bless them to be a positive influence in the lives of those around them. Ask God to give your boys a heart for His people and that they take God’s saving truth to those in need.

And even if your boys are young like mine, pray that God will be preparing the girl who will one day be a godly mate for each one of them.
